baby steps

Today's milestone miracle: I took a shower all by myself. And if that didn't sound exciting enough, I also washed my own hair. And I did it standing, instead of flopped over the side of the bathtub. This small feat took me a couple of weeks to master after the last surgery.

How exciting. So exciting, in fact, that I was also able to use my own hair dryer.

And now it's time for a nap.

Mom and Dad left this morning. I'm glad they were able to come for the surgery. The came bearing the best gifts --- Sun Drop and Ricks BBQ... nectar of Heaven.

Do you have to put plastic over your incision when you shower? When I got my thyroidectomy they wanted me to cover it for like 2 weeks after, but after I got the stitches out I covered it once and it still got wet and it felt good and so I didnt cover it anymore, but I tried to not get it too wet. But its your neck, how do you wash your hair without getting your neck wet?? You also have to get soap in your eyes cause you cant look up.
I remember how hard it was to get up off the bed or roll over. You never know how much you use the muscles in your neck till someone cuts thru them with a scalpel. I was also pregnant at the time so try getting up or rolling over without abs OR neck muscles. I had to have my hubby just pull me off the bed.
Congrats on the rolling over and the shower. Good luck with the looking left and right next!!

I had an emergency C-Section and it was very difficult to start moving. The nurses were saying, just don't use your stomach muscles, how do you no use muscles you've been using without thought for 18 or more years.

And I agree Sun-drop is the nectar of Heaven. I want to scream whenever people say it tastes like Mt. Dew.

The surgeon told me I could get it wet 24 hours after the surgery... my stiches are all on the inside and I just have some itchy steri-strips on the outside of my neck.

Neosporin is my friend.

Maybe its the radiation that is making you more powerful at recovery? Just think how fast you will heal after the next round! Maybe it does have magic powers.

Your always in our thoughts. I & W were both asking about you in our S'day chats.
