They were both strike-outs. So much so that we are no longer trusting the netflix star guide. This is the last time it leads us astray.
I'm not against all independent films.
I wasn't a huge fan of Pulp Fiction, but it had some great scenes and dialogue. Same goes for Reservoir Dogs. I really liked Before Sunset. And most of my favorite scary movies would've never made it if it wasn't for independent film companies (like The Blair Witch Project - not one of my all-time-favorites, but definitely a fun movie).
The Believer (not as bad as the 2nd one, but still not great) and Mean Creek (terrible, but had a good soundtrack), however... not worth your time. Take them out of your queue.

I had seen where Netflix offered a massive dollar prize for software to make just an incremental boost in the accuracy of those recommendations. Guess they should have paid more.
Amazon and Tivo have the same problem. Its not at all clear what they base their assessments on, but they rarely seem to nail it. Amazon's particularly bad. It still remembers the kids books I bought my daughter, years ago. No way that I can see to reset, either.
Yes, we too have been led astray by Netflix's "star" references. It also doesn't help that our 5 year old has unlimited access through the Wii to pick out movies...for some reason Netflix keeps wanting us to watch the 2nd season of "Danny Phantom" and "Dora the Explorer". Hahaha!
I haven't seen or rented a movie in a long time, two or three years. I've never used Netflix or Amazon, always picked my own but I wasn't all that hot either. I haven't seen a movie in two years. I did have an urge this past weekend to go rent one, but didn't. I don't know what I'd get, what's good. I may try later.
